Legislative Advisory: §200.55 (b) of NCLB – December 3, 2007
In planning a-g certification for CTE courses, field should heed the caveat that §200.55 (b) of NCLB only exempts “some vocational education teachers” from that statute’s “highly qualified teacher” requirements. “Vocational education teachers” who grant credit for “core academic courses” are not exempt and must meet NCLB’s highly qualified teacher mandates. Therefore, if, for example, you want to grant “Biology” credit for an animal husbandry class, the teacher must meet NCLB requirements.
